The DW Collector’s Series is considered DW’s flagship line. It represents the ultimate in fully customizable drum kits, where nearly every aspect – from wood type to hardware finish – can be tailored to the player’s preference.

Key Features & Technologies

• Specialized Shell Configuration (SSC): DW uses different ply orientations (horizontal, vertical, diagonal) to lower the fundamental pitch of the shells and maximize resonance. Configurations include VLT (Vertical Low Timbre), X-Shell, VLX, and HVX.
• Timbre Matching: Each shell is individually tested and stamped for its fundamental pitch. Complete kits are assembled so the drums descend harmonically in their natural tuning.
• True-Pitch® Tuning: Tension rods with finer threads allow for more precise and stable tuning compared to standard industry hardware.
• Hardware Innovations: Standard features include STM™ (Suspension Tom Mounts) for maximum resonance, True-Hoops™, and the MAG™ throw-off system for snare drums.

The Collector’s Series offers a wide range of pure woods and hybrid constructions:

• Pure Wood: Available in Pure Maple, Birch, Cherry, Oak, Walnut, and Purpleheart.
• Hybrid Shells: Popular combinations include Maple/Mahogany (warm and resonant) and Cherry/Mahogany.
• Special Series:
  • Jazz Series: Uses a Gumwood core for a warm, round tone.
  • Classics: 3-ply poplar/mahogany shells with reinforcement rings for a vintage 1930s–50s sound.
  • Santa Monica: Thicker all-maple shells based on DW’s original 1980s design.
  • SonicPly™: A modern hybrid of maple and aluminum for a drier, more focused sound.

Customization Options
