About 30 years ago, The Beatles recorded the first and now most famous concept album in rock history in London's Abbey Road Studios. On June 1, 1967, after six months of hard work, "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" was released and conquered the charts.
Never before had anyone heard anything that even remotely resembled this record. "Sgt. Pepper" held up a mirror to the world, and everyone saw what they wanted to see.
The curious musical masterpiece quickly became the ultimate hippie symphony for all flower children around the world. It created myths and a cult that remains unbroken to this day.
As producer and friend of The Beatles, George Martin leads us into that fantastic realm called "Pepper." With the knowledge of an insider, he describes in detail, like no one before, the 700 hours of a creative process that ultimately revolutionized pop music.
Song by song, verse by verse, he vividly and informatively traces the secrets of the "greatest modern opera" (Allen Ginsberg). His impressions and experiences bring the album to life even while reading: with "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds," "Lovely Rita," or "A Day in the Life."
