The Rogers "Big R" 14x5" Dynasonic Snare Drum .
It embodies the late era of the traditional American brand Rogers before its temporary closure and stands out for its groundbreaking innovations.
Key Features & Construction
-
Shell material: The most common model of this era has a COB shell (Chrome over Brass). This shell delivers an extremely crisp, bright and cutting sound with warm overtones. (Less commonly, wood versions such as the XP8 maple shells also exist from the Big R era.)
- The "Big R" badge: Unlike the older "Script Logo" models, this snare features the distinctive large, square foil badge with the striking Rogers "R," introduced around 1975.
-
The Dynasonic frame system (chassis): The heart of the drum. A special aluminum frame holds the snare wires under constant tension without having to press them flat against the resonant head. As a result, the snare is extremely sensitive, sounds completely dry and articulate, and suffers hardly at all from annoying snare buzz when toms are struck.
-
Hardware: Equipped with 10 centered lugs, the typical Swiv-O-Matic or Tombstone throw-off (strainer) and an internal muffler.
- Year of manufacture (1976–1978): After the first 5-digit transitional numbers, Rogers switched to a 6-digit system in 1976. The blocks in the range
D 70xxxx to D 75xxxx were stamped consecutively between 1976 and 1978
- Serial Number D739749
