Released in May 1966, the album Pet Sounds is now considered the masterpiece of composer and producer Brian Wilson and has become one of the best and most influential albums in pop music.
This is confirmed by the fact that Pet Sounds is widely regarded as one of the most influential albums of all time, ranking number 1 on several music magazines' lists of the greatest albums of all time, including New Musical Express, The Times, and Mojo Magazine. In 2003, it was voted number 2 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time (Sgt. Pepper's was number one).
Along with Revolver and Pink Floyd's The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Pet Sounds is one of the first masterpieces of psychedelic rock with its elaborate experimentation, psychedelic lyrics, new guitar, organ, piano, and other instrument sounds.
